I get it. In this age of information there is so much information available on a topic that you don't know what or who to believe. Essential oils usage definitely fits into this category. I used essential oils for approximately five years before I got an actual education on them from a reputable source.
During that time, I got most of my EO info from people who used the same oils I did, who learned what they knew the same way - people who used the same oils.
I also fell victim to hundreds of Pinterest posts, blog articles, and random groups on social media. Don't misunderstand me: I got some true and valuable information from those sources as well. But the misinformation I got bothers me because I believed it before I knew better AND I passed that erroneous information on to other people.
That's the thing, most people who believe and state bad information aren't doing it on purpose.
Some of the most common bad information myths center around whether or not an essential oil is PURE. It seems as though some believe that if an essential oil is high quality and pure - anything goes. YIKES.
SO THIS IS MY LIST OF "PURE" ESSENTIAL OIL MYTHS THAT ARE MY PERSONAL IRRITANTS

What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils aren't new. They've been used for healing for thousands of years in various cultures and civilizations. Essential oils are volatile. No, they don't explode, though some are more flammable than others. Volatile means that when you open a bottle of pure essential oil, the aroma molecules "jump" out at you! The word volatile actually means "to fly". It is what makes them so incredibly aromatic, as opposed to say, olive oil, which is not very volatile at all.
A true essential oil comes from distilling (or expressing) plant material of one specific plant type in order to get the "essence" of that plant. Not all plants have their essential oils in the same parts. Sandalwood comes from just the heartwood of the tree. Lavender comes from the flowers. Lemon comes from cold pressing the rind of the fruit. Not all plants produce essential oils, and not all essential oils are safe to use. That's why you may or may not find an essential oil from your favorite botanical.
Each plant's essential oil containing different constituents, or chemical components. Some oils have some of the same constituents, but each plant's essential oil is incredibly unique. In fact, there are sometimes vast variations in the same species depending on where it was grown, how it was harvested, when it was harvested, and the quality of the distillation process. These are all good reasons to find an essential oil company who knows what they are doing, and focuses on quality. Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for their healing properties.
